Warned by experts, rising costs of swimming lessons are causing an increasing number of Dutch children to not achieve their swimming diploma.
Many children have to discontinue swimming lessons because their parents can no longer afford or are unwilling to pay the increased fees.
Research by Nieuwsuur reveals that the prices of swimming lessons have significantly risen in recent years.
Since 2018, parents have had to pay nearly 30 percent more on average for swimming lessons. In some municipalities, this percentage has even escalated to 70 percent.
For comparison, the average price increase of products and services in the Netherlands is 21 percent.
Converted to euros, a swimming lesson now costs an average of 12 euros, compared to the previous 9 euros. To achieve just an A diploma, approximately sixty lessons are required, costing parents over 700 euros.
5. Ik schrik van de prijsstijging. Niet normaal!
